Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
गुरूणाम् गुरु कार्याणि काले काले अन्ववैक्षत ।
एवम् दशरथः प्रीतो ब्राह्मणा नैगमाः तथा ॥ ॥१-७७-२३॥
Gurūṇām guru kāryāṇi kāle kāle anvavaikṣata |
Evam daśarathaḥ prīto brāhmaṇā naigamāḥ tathā ॥1-77-23॥
Translation
He (Shri Rama) constantly attended to the important tasks of his elders and preceptors at the appropriate times. Thus, King Dasharatha, the Brahmanas, and the merchants/citizens were extremely pleased with him.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे (श्री राम) समय-समय पर गुरुजनों के महत्वपूर्ण कार्यों की देख-रेख करते रहते थे। उनके इस आचरण से महाराज दशरथ, ब्राह्मण और नगर के व्यापारी (वैश्य समाज) अत्यंत प्रसन्न थे।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Shri Rama's humility and dedication to duty. Despite being a mighty warrior who had just accomplished great feats, Rama did not display arrogance upon returning home. He remained constantly engaged in the service of his elders (Gurūṇām). The phrase anvavaikṣata implies that he proactively looked after their needs, often anticipating them before they were spoken. Rama is depicted here as the ideal prince who bridges the gap between the royal family and the general populace. His conduct brought joy not only to his father, King Dasharatha, but also to the intellectual class (Brahmanas) and the commercial class (Naigamas). It illustrates that true leadership begins with service and maintaining harmony across all strata of society.

यह श्लोक श्री राम की विनम्रता और कर्तव्य-परायणता को दर्शाता है। यद्यपि राम अपार शक्तिशाली और पराक्रमी थे, तथापि घर लौटने के बाद उन्होंने अहंकार नहीं दिखाया। वे 'गुरूणाम्' (बड़ों के) कार्यों में निरंतर संलग्न रहते थे। यहाँ 'गुरु कार्याणि' का अर्थ केवल आज्ञा पालन नहीं, बल्कि बड़ों की इच्छाओं को बिना कहे समझकर पूरा करना है। एक आदर्श राजकुमार के रूप में, राम न केवल अपने पिता को सुख देते थे, बल्कि समाज के हर वर्ग—चाहे वे ज्ञानी ब्राह्मण हों या व्यापार करने वाले 'नैगम'—सभी के साथ उनका व्यवहार इतना उत्तम था कि पूरी अयोध्या उनसे प्रसन्न थी। यह पारिवारिक और सामाजिक समरसता का एक सुंदर उदाहरण है।
