गतो राम इति श्रुत्वा हृष्टः प्रमुदितो नृपः ।
पुनर्जातम् तदा मेने पुत्रम् आत्मानम् एव च ॥१-७७-५॥
gato rāma iti śrutvā hṛṣṭaḥ pramudito nṛpaḥ |
punarjātam tadā mene putram ātmānam eva ca ॥1-77-5॥
Translation
Hearing that (Parashurama) Rama had gone, the King was delighted and rejoiced. He considered his son and himself to be born again.

'परशुराम चले गए' यह सुनकर राजा अत्यंत हर्षित और आनंदित हुए। उन्होंने अपने पुत्र को और स्वयं को भी उस समय पुनर्जन्म प्राप्त किया हुआ माना।
English Commentary
The phrase "punarjatam" (born again) underscores the severity of the threat Parashurama posed in Dasharatha's eyes. The King had been certain of doom. The relief is so overwhelming that he feels as if he and Rama have been granted a new life. This highlights Dasharatha's intense emotional attachment to Rama, which is a central theme leading to the tragic events of the Ayodhya Kanda later.

दशरथ के लिए परशुराम का आना साक्षात् मृत्यु के समान था। 'पुनर्जातम्' (पुनर्जन्म) शब्द का प्रयोग यह बताता है कि दशरथ ने आशा छोड़ दी थी। अब जब संकट टल गया, तो उन्हें लग रहा है कि उन्हें और उनके पुत्रों को दूसरा जीवन मिला है। यह श्लोक दशरथ के पुत्र-मोह और भय की तीव्रता को उजागर करता है।
