Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सिक्त राज पथा रम्याम् प्रकीर्ण कुसुम उत्क्राम् ।
राज प्रवेश सुमुखैः पौरैः मंगल पाणिभिः ॥१-७७-७॥
sikta rāja pathā ramyām prakīrṇa kusuma utkarām |
rāja praveśa sumukhaiḥ pauraiḥ mangala pāṇibhiḥ ॥1-77-7॥
Translation
(He entered the city) which had its royal roads watered, was strewn with heaps of flowers, and was filled with happy-faced citizens holding auspicious articles for the King's entry.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिसके राजमार्गों पर जल का छिड़काव किया गया था, जहाँ फूलों के ढेर बिखेरे गए थे, और जहाँ प्रसन्न मुख वाले पुरवासी राजा के प्रवेश के लिए हाथों में मांगलिक वस्तुएं लिए खड़े थे (ऐसी अयोध्या में राजा ने प्रवेश किया)।
English Commentary
This verse paints a vivid picture of the festive preparations. Watering the roads ("sikta") was a standard ancient luxury to settle dust and cool the air. The citizens are "sumukhaih" (happy-faced), holding "mangala" (auspicious) items to bless the returning royals. It reflects the prosperity and harmony of Dasharatha's reign (Ramarajya in anticipation).

अयोध्यावासियों के प्रेम और उत्साह का वर्णन है। सड़कों पर पानी का छिड़काव धूल बैठाने और शीतलता के लिए किया जाता था। 'मंगल पाणिभिः' का अर्थ है हाथों में आरती, अक्षत, पुष्प आदि शुभ सामग्री लिए हुए लोग। यह प्रजा का अपने राजा और राजकुमारों के प्रति स्नेह दर्शाता है।
