ततः साधु इति तद्वाक्यम् ब्राह्मणाः प्रत्यपूजयन् ।
वशिष्ठ प्रमुखाः सर्वे पार्थिवस्य मुखेरितम् ॥१-८-१०॥
tataḥ sādhu iti tadvākyam brāhmaṇāḥ pratyapūjayan |
vaśiṣṭha pramukhāḥ sarve pārthivasya mukheritam ॥1-8-10॥
Translation
Then, all the principal Brahmins, headed by Vasishtha, honored that statement (resolve) uttered by the King (pārthiva) with the words, 'Sādhu!' (Excellent!).

तब वशिष्ठ आदि सभी प्रमुख ब्राह्मणों ने राजा (पार्थिव) के मुख से निकले उस वचन (संकल्प) का 'साधु!' (उत्तम!) कहकर सम्मान किया।
English Commentary
This shloka is a continuation from Sarga 8 of the Balakanda and captures the response of the preceptors and assembled scholars to Maharaja Dasharatha's resolve to perform the Ashwamedha sacrifice. The resolve that Dasharatha articulated—to perform the sacrifice for a son according to scriptural injunctions—was met with approval and delight by all the learned Brahmins present, led by Maharishi Vasishtha. 'Sādhu iti tadvākyam' means they praised the King's words by saying 'Excellent!' or 'Well done!' and 'pratyapūjayan' signifies that they honored that resolution. This reaction indicates that Dasharatha's decision was not merely a personal desire but was also sanctioned by tradition and dharma. Gaining the support of Guru Vasishtha and the other Brahmins confirms that the idea of the sacrifice was appropriate, necessary, and had the potential for success. Their immediate approval reassures the King and provides an auspicious indication for the subsequent course of action.
