अमात्यान् अब्रवीत् राजा हर्ष पर्याकुल लोचन ।
संभाराः संभ्रियंताम् मे गुरूणाम् वचनात् इह ॥१-८-१४॥
amātyān abravīt rājā harṣa paryākula locana |
saṃbhārāḥ saṃbhriyantāṃ me gurūṇām vacanāt iha ॥1-8-14॥
Translation
The King, whose eyes were filled with excessive joy, spoke to the ministers: "Here, by the command of my preceptors, let my materials (for the sacrifice) be collected."

आनन्द से भरी हुई (परम प्रसन्न) आँखों वाले राजा ने मंत्रियों से कहा: "यहाँ, मेरे गुरुजनों के आदेश पर, मेरी (यज्ञ की) सामग्री एकत्र की जाए।"
English Commentary
This shloka is from Sarga 8 of the Balakanda. Once Maharaja Dasharatha received permission and the assurance of success for the Ashwamedha sacrifice from his preceptor, Maharishi Vasishtha, and the other Brahmins, his heart filled with deep joy. 'Harṣa paryākula locana' describes his eyes as being overwhelmed or brimming with excessive joy, a clear external manifestation of his internal satisfaction. In this state of happiness, the King immediately commanded his ministers (amātyān) to begin preparations for the sacrifice. He instructed, 'saṃbhārāḥ saṃbhriyantāṃ me' (let my materials be collected), and explicitly stated the basis for this command: 'gurūṇām vacanāt iha' (this is to be done here by the command/word of my preceptors). This detail shows that King Dasharatha wanted to ensure that the task was understood by his ministers not as an arbitrary royal wish, but as a righteous act sanctioned and initiated under the direction of his revered Gurus. This immediate action underscores the King's enthusiasm and firm resolve regarding the sacrifice.

यह श्लोक बालकाण्ड, सर्ग ८ से लिया गया है। महाराज दशरथ को जब उनके गुरु महर्षि वशिष्ठ और अन्य ब्राह्मणों से पुत्र-प्राप्ति हेतु अश्वमेध यज्ञ करने की अनुमति और सफलता का आश्वासन मिल गया, तो उनका मन गहरे आनन्द से भर गया। 'हर्ष पर्याकुल लोचन' का अर्थ है उनकी आँखें हर्ष या अत्यधिक खुशी से विह्वल थीं, जो उनकी आंतरिक प्रसन्नता का बाह्य प्रकटीकरण था। इस प्रसन्नता की अवस्था में, राजा ने तुरंत अपने मंत्रियों (अमात्यान्) को यज्ञ की तैयारी शुरू करने का आदेश दिया। उन्होंने आदेश दिया कि 'संभाराः संभ्रियंताम् मे' (मेरी सामग्री एकत्र की जाए), और इस आदेश का आधार भी स्पष्ट किया: 'गुरूणाम् वचनात् इह' (यह सब यहाँ मेरे गुरुजनों के वचन/आदेश पर किया जाए)। यह दर्शाता है कि राजा दशरथ अपने मंत्रियों के समक्ष भी यह सुनिश्चित करना चाहते थे कि यह कार्य उनकी मनमानी नहीं है, बल्कि यह धर्मसम्मत है और उनके श्रद्धेय गुरुओं के निर्देश पर शुरू किया जा रहा है। यह तुरंत कार्रवाई यज्ञ के प्रति राजा के उत्साह और दृढ़ संकल्प को उजागर करती है।
