तत् चारु अञ्चित पद्माक्षम् सुगन्धि शुभम् अव्रणम् ।
अपश्यतो मुखम् तस्याः सीदति इव मतिः मम ॥ ॥४-१-१०९॥
Tat cāru añcita padmākṣam sugandhi śubham avraṇam । Apaśyato mukham tasyāḥ sīdati iva matiḥ mama ॥ ॥4-1-109॥
Translation
Not seeing her beautiful face, which has lovely curved eyelashes, eyes like lotus petals, is fragrant, auspicious, and flawless, my mind feels as if it is sinking into depression.

उस सुन्दरी के सुंदर, तिरछी चितवन और कमल के समान नेत्रों वाले, सुगंधित, कल्याणकारी और दोषरहित मुख को न देख पाने के कारण मेरी बुद्धि मानो अवसन्न (शिथिल/डूब रही) होती जा रही है।
English Commentary
In this verse, Rama describes the sensory deprivation he feels in Sita's absence. He recalls her face not just as beautiful (caru), but as 'auspicious' (shubham) and 'flawless' (avranam). The use of the word sidati (sinking or decaying) for his mind suggests deep psychological distress. It highlights that Sita was not merely a romantic partner but the anchor of his mental peace. Her 'fragrance' and 'lotus eyes' represent a sensory comfort that is now missing, causing his intellect to falter. This vulnerability humanizes Rama, showing that even the greatest strength can be eroded by the sorrow of separation from a pure soul.

इस श्लोक में श्री राम की विरह वेदना अपनी चरम सीमा पर है। यहाँ सीता जी के मुख के सौंदर्य का वर्णन केवल शारीरिक आकर्षण नहीं, बल्कि उनके सात्विक प्रभाव को दर्शाता है। 'सुगन्धि' और 'शुभम्' जैसे विशेषण बताते हैं कि सीता का सान्निध्य राम के मन को शांति और पवित्रता प्रदान करता था। अब उनके अभाव में राम की मानसिक स्थिति 'सीदति' (शिथिल या अवसादग्रस्त) हो रही है। यह दर्शाता है कि एक आदर्श पत्नी अपने पति के लिए केवल संगिनी नहीं, बल्कि उसकी मानसिक स्थिरता का आधार भी होती है। राम यहाँ एक साधारण मनुष्य की भांति अपने प्रिय के वियोग में मानसिक संतुलन खोते हुए प्रतीत हो रहे हैं, जो उनकी लीला का मानवीय पक्ष है।
