प्रवृत्तिः लभ्यताम् तावत् तस्य पापस्य रक्षसः ।
ततः हास्यति वा सीताम् निधनम् वा गमिष्यति ॥ ॥४-१-११८॥
Pravṛttiḥ labhyatām tāvat tasya pāpasya rakṣasaḥ । Tataḥ hāsyati vā Sītām nidhanam vā gamiṣyati ॥ ॥4-1-118॥
Translation
Let the whereabouts of that sinful ogre be found first. Then, he will either give up Sita or he will meet his death.

पहले उस पापी राक्षस की प्रवृत्ति (ठिकाना/समाचार) तो मिल जाए। उसके बाद या तो वह सीता को छोड़ देगा या फिर मृत्यु को प्राप्त होगा।
English Commentary
Lakshmana brings the conversation to immediate pragmatism. He outlines a clear step-by-step strategy: First, intelligence gathering (pravritti) to find the "sinful ogre's" location. Once found, the outcome is binary and certain: surrender Sita or die. By breaking down the monumental task into an actionable first step (finding news), Lakshmana helps make the problem solvable for Rama. It moves the narrative from "How can I live without her?" to "Where is the enemy?"—changing the mindset from victimhood to agency.

लक्ष्मण यहाँ व्यावहारिक योजना (Action Plan) प्रस्तुत कर रहे हैं। भावनाओं में बहने के बजाय वे तर्कसंगत कदम उठाने की बात करते हैं: 'प्रवृत्तिः लभ्यताम्' (पहले जानकारी प्राप्त करें)। यह नीति शास्त्र का सिद्धांत है कि शत्रु पर आक्रमण करने से पहले उसकी स्थिति का ज्ञान आवश्यक है। लक्ष्मण दो ही परिणाम देखते हैं—या तो रावण डरकर सीता को लौटा देगा, या मारा जाएगा। तीसरा कोई विकल्प नहीं है। यह कथन राम को यह भरोसा दिलाने के लिए है कि स्थिति नियंत्रण में आ सकती है, बस उन्हें धैर्यपूर्वक खोज शुरू करनी होगी।
