उत्साहो बलवान् आर्य नास्ति उत्साहात् परम् बलम् ।
सः उत्साहस्य हि लोकेषु न किंचित् अपि दुर्लभम् ॥४-१-१२१॥
Utsāho balavān ārya nāsti utsāhāt param balam |
Saḥ utsāhasya hi lokeṣu na kiṃcit api durlabham ॥4-1-121॥
Translation
O Noble One! Enthusiasm is powerful; there is no power greater than enthusiasm. Indeed, for one possessed of enthusiasm, nothing in these worlds is difficult to obtain.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे आर्य! उत्साह (मानसिक दृढ़ता या प्रयत्न) ही बलवान है; उत्साह से बढ़कर कोई दूसरा बल नहीं है। उस उत्साह संपन्न व्यक्ति के लिए लोकों में कुछ भी दुर्लभ (प्राप्त करने में कठिन) नहीं है।
English Commentary
In this verse, Lakshmana assumes the role of a wise counselor to his elder brother. Rama is overwhelmed by the sorrow of separation from Sita and the beauty of the Pampa region which exacerbates his longing. Lakshmana articulates a timeless truth: Utsaha (enthusiasm, fortitude, or active effort) is the supreme strength. Sorrow acts as a draining force, rendering even the mighty weak, whereas distinct mental resolve makes any goal achievable. Lakshmana addresses Rama as "Arya" (Noble One), respectfully urging him to shake off his despondency. This moment is pivotal as it marks the transition from passive grieving to active searching. It highlights that even an incarnation or a great hero requires the support of kin to navigate moments of profound despair.

यहाँ लक्ष्मण श्री राम को शोक के सागर से बाहर निकालने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं। वे 'उत्साह' के दार्शनिक और व्यावहारिक महत्त्व को रेखांकित करते हैं। यहाँ 'उत्साह' का अर्थ केवल खुशी नहीं, बल्कि पुरुषार्थ, मानसिक दृढ़ता और कार्य करने की अदम्य इच्छाशक्ति है। लक्ष्मण, जो राम के अनुज होने के साथ-साथ उनके रक्षक और सखा भी हैं, राम को याद दिलाते हैं कि विषाद मनुष्य की शक्ति को क्षीण करता है, जबकि उत्साह असंभव को भी संभव बनाने की क्षमता रखता है। यह श्लोक रामायण के सबसे सशक्त प्रेरक वचनों में से एक है, जहाँ लक्ष्मण राम को उनकी अपनी सुप्त शक्ति का स्मरण करा रहे हैं।
