उत्साहवन्तः पुरुषा न अवसीदन्ति कर्मसु ।
उत्साह मत्रम् आश्रित्य सीताम् प्रतिलप्स्याम् जनकीम् ॥४-१-१२२॥
Utsāhavantaḥ puruṣā na avasīdanti karmasu |
Utsāha matram āśritya sītām pratilapsyāma janakīm ॥4-1-122॥
Translation
Men possessed of enthusiasm do not sink [into despondency] in their actions. Relying solely on this enthusiasm, we shall recover Janaki Sita.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो पुरुष उत्साही होते हैं, वे कार्यों में (विपरीत परिस्थितियों में भी) दुखी या विफल नहीं होते। केवल उत्साह का ही आश्रय लेकर हम जानकी सीता को पुनः प्राप्त कर लेंगे।
English Commentary
Lakshmana continues his exhortation by linking the abstract concept of enthusiasm to their immediate, concrete goal: finding Sita. He asserts that those driven by Utsaha remain resilient in the face of adversity and do not succumb to failure. The use of "we" implies that Lakshmana is fully invested in this struggle alongside Rama. By stating they will recover Sita relying only on enthusiasm, he suggests that inner strength is the primary weapon they need right now, more than armies or divine boons. This verse showcases Lakshmana's pragmatism and his unwavering dedication to Rama's cause, serving as an anchor of stability when Rama is emotionally adrift.

लक्ष्मण अपनी बात को आगे बढ़ाते हुए सिद्धांत को व्यवहार में लाते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि उत्साह केवल एक भावना नहीं, बल्कि सफलता की कुंजी है। 'न अवसीदन्ति' का अर्थ है कि वे हार नहीं मानते या विषाद में डूबते नहीं हैं। लक्ष्मण का आत्मविश्वास यहाँ देखने योग्य है; वे राम को विश्वास दिलाते हैं कि सीता की प्राप्ति केवल भाग्य या चमत्कार से नहीं, बल्कि उनके अथक पुरुषार्थ और उत्साह से होगी। यहाँ 'जानकीम्' शब्द का प्रयोग सीता के उच्च कुल और पवित्रता का स्मरण कराने के लिए किया गया है। लक्ष्मण यह स्पष्ट करते हैं कि वर्तमान दुख का निवारण केवल कर्म और सकारात्मक दृष्टिकोण (उत्साह) के माध्यम से ही संभव है। यह राम के मन में आशा का संचार करने का एक विनम्र प्रयास है।
