Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तेन विक्षिपता अत्यर्थम् पवनेन समन्ततः ।
अमी संसक्त शाखाग्रा ग्रथिता इव पादपाः ॥४-१-१६॥
tena vikṣipatā atyartham pavanena samantataḥ |
amī samsakta śākhāgrā grathitā iva pādapāḥ ॥4-1-16॥
Translation
Being shaken excessively on all sides by that wind, these trees, with their branch-tips clinging to one another, appear as if they are knotted together.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस वायु द्वारा सब ओर से अत्यधिक हिलाए जाने के कारण, आपस में उलझी हुई शाखाओं वाले ये वृक्ष ऐसे लगते हैं मानो गुंथे हुए (बंधे हुए) हों।
English Commentary
The intensity of the wind forces the trees into a chaotic embrace. The phrase samsakta śākhāgrā refers to the tips of branches getting entangled. The visual created is that the trees are grathitā (knotted or tied) together. This signifies the density of the forest and the power of the elements. Metaphorically, while the wind forces the separate trees into a union or knot, Rama remains painfully untethered from his partner. The interconnectedness of nature stands in stark contrast to the separation experienced by the observer.

यह श्लोक वन की सघनता और वायु के वेग का वर्णन करता है। वायु इतनी तेज है ('अत्यर्थम्' - अत्यधिक) कि पास-पास खड़े वृक्षों की डालियाँ आपस में उलझ गई हैं। 'ग्रथिता इव' (मानो गाँठ बाँध दी गई हो) एक सुंदर उत्प्रेक्षा है। यह वृक्षों के पारस्परिक आलिंगन जैसा भी प्रतीत होता है। राम, जो स्वयं अपनी अर्धांगिनी से विलग हैं, प्रकृति में इस 'जुड़ाव' या 'बंधन' को देखते हैं। जहां सब कुछ एक-दूसरे से जुड़ा है, वहां राम का अकेले होना उनकी पीड़ा को रेखांकित करता है।
