श्रुत्वा एतस्य पुरा शब्दम् आश्रमस्था मम प्रिया ।
माम् आहूय प्रमुदिता परमम् प्रत्यनन्दत ॥४-१-२५॥
śrutvā etasya purā śabdam āśramasthā mama priyā |
mām āhūya pramuditā paramam pratyanandata ॥4-1-25॥
Translation
In the past, hearing the sound of this bird while staying in the hermitage, my beloved would become extremely delighted and, calling out to me, would rejoice greatly.

पहले (वनवास के दौरान) जब मेरी प्रिया (सीता) आश्रम में रहती थी, तब इस (पक्षी) की बोली सुनकर वह परम हर्षित होती थी और मुझे बुलाकर आनंद प्रकट करती थी।
English Commentary
This verse operates on the mechanism of memory association. The call of the Datyuhaka bird serves as a bridge to the past. Rama recalls a specific domestic scene from their days in the hermitage (āśramasthā), where Sita would delightedly call him to share in the simple joy of hearing the bird. It highlights the intimacy of their relationship—Sita's happiness was incomplete without sharing it with Rama. The contrast between that shared joy and his current isolation transforms a sweet memory into a source of acute pain, illustrating the psychological depth of his grief.

यह श्लोक स्मृति-पटल (flashback) पर आधारित है। दात्यूहक पक्षी की आवाज वर्तमान में राम को पीड़ा दे रही है क्योंकि वह अतीत की एक सुखद स्मृति से जुड़ी है। राम याद करते हैं कि चित्रकूट या पंचवटी के आश्रम में सीता इसी पक्षी की आवाज सुनकर कितनी उत्साहित हो जाती थीं। 'माम् आहूय' (मुझे बुलाकर) दर्शाता है कि सीता अपना हर छोटा-बड़ा सुख राम के साथ बांटती थीं। यह दांपत्य जीवन की घनिष्ठता और सीता की प्रकृति-प्रेमी छवि को रेखांकित करता है। वर्तमान एकाकीपन इस मधुर स्मृति को कष्टदायी बना रहा है।
