अस्याः कूले प्रमुदिताः संघशः शकुनास्त्विह ।
दात्यूहरति विक्रन्दैः पुंस्कोकिल रुतैः अपि ॥४-१-२८॥
asyāḥ kūle pramuditāḥ saṃghaśaḥ śakunāstviha |
dātyūharati vikrandaiḥ puṃskokila rutaiḥ api ॥4-1-28॥
Translation
On the banks of this (Pampa), flocks of birds are rejoicing, amidst the mating cries of Datyuhas and the sounds of male cuckoos.

इस (पम्पा) के तट पर दात्यूह (पपीहा) के रति-काल के क्रंदन और नर-कोयलों की कूक से, पक्षियों के झुंड के झुंड यहां आनंद मना रहे हैं।
English Commentary
The auditory landscape of Pampa's banks is dominated by the sounds of passion. Rama identifies the sounds as rati vikrandaiḥ—cries associated with mating or erotic pleasure—specifically of the Datyuha birds, along with the calls of male cuckoos (puṃskokila). These sounds characterize the joyous socialization of the bird flocks (saṃghaśaḥ). For a separated lover, hearing the specific sounds of mating and joy in nature acts as a tormenting reminder of physical intimacy, transforming the peaceful lake into a torture chamber of memories.

पम्पा सरोवर का तट पक्षियों के कलरव से गूंज रहा है। 'रति विक्रන්දैः' अत्यंत शक्तिशाली शब्द है—इसका अर्थ है प्रेम-क्रीड़ा या मिलन के समय की आवाजें। दात्यूह और कोकिल (कोयल) कामदेव के दूत माने जाते हैं। इनकी आवाजें सीधे हृदय पर प्रभाव डालती हैं। राम देख रहे हैं कि पक्षी 'संघशः' (समूहों में) हैं और 'प्रमुदिताः' (अत्यंत खुश) हैं। यह ध्वनि-प्रदूषण नहीं, बल्कि प्रेम-संगीत है, जो विरही राम के कानों में विष के समान घुल रहा है।
