माम् हि पल्लव ताम्रार्चिः वसन्ताग्निः प्रधक्ष्यति ।
न हि ताम् सूक्ष्मपक्ष्माक्षीम् सुकेशीम् मृदु भाषिणीम् ॥४-१-३०॥
mām hi pallava tāmrārciḥ vasantāgniḥ pradhakṣyati |
na hi tām sūkṣmapakṣmākṣīm sukeśīm mṛdu bhāṣiṇīm ॥4-1-30॥
Translation
This fire of Spring, with its copper-colored shoots as flames, will indeed burn me to ashes, for I do not see that lady of fine eyelashes, beautiful hair, and soft speech.

यह वसंत रूपी अग्नि, जिसकी ज्वालाएं तांबे जैसे लाल रंग के नए पत्तों (किसलय) के रूप में हैं, मुझे जला डालेगी; क्योंकि मैं उस सुंदर केश वाली, मृदुभाषिणी और सुंदर पलकों वाली (सीता) को नहीं देख पा रहा हूँ।
English Commentary
The metaphor of Spring as Fire continues. The tender, copper-colored shoots (pallava tāmra) represent the flames (arciḥ) of this Vasantāgni. Rama contrasts this burning presence with the absence of Sita, recalling her delicate features: sūkṣmapakṣmākṣīm (fine eyelashes), sukeśīm (lovely hair), and mṛdu bhāṣiṇīm (soft-spoken). These specific physical details highlight the intimacy of his memory. The juxtaposition of the harsh, burning spring and the soft, gentle nature of Sita emphasizes his vulnerability. He feels physically threatened by the season in her absence.

रूपक यहाँ जारी रहता है। वसंत स्वयं 'वसंताग्नि' है। नए निकले कोमल पत्तों का रंग ताम्रवर्णी (लाल-भूरा) होता है, जिन्हें राम आग की लपटें (अर्चिः) कह रहे हैं। इस दाहक पीड़ा के बीच, सीता का नख-शिख स्मरण आता है। 'सूक्ष्मपक्ष्माक्षीम्' (बारीक/सुंदर पलकों वाली), 'सुकेशीम्' (सुंदर बालों वाली) और 'मृदु भाषिणीम्' (मीठा बोलने वाली)—ये विशेषण बताते हैं कि राम सीता के सौंदर्य और उनके स्वभाव दोनों को याद कर रहे हैं। 'प्रधक्ष्यति' (जला देगा) क्रिया भविष्य के प्रति उनकी निराशा को दिखाती है।
