माम् अपि एवम् विशालाक्षी जानकी जात संभ्रमा ।
मदनेन अभिवर्तेत यदि न अपहृता भवेत् ॥ ॥४-१-४३॥
mām api evam viśālākṣī jānakī jāta saṃbhramā । madanena abhivarteta yadi na apahṛtā bhavet ॥ ॥4-1-43॥
Translation
Even the wide-eyed Janaki, stirred by excitement and inspired by love, would have approached me in this manner, had she not been abducted.

यदि विशालाक्षी जानकी का हरण न हुआ होता, तो वह भी इसी प्रकार प्रेमोल्लास में भरकर कामदेव से प्रेरित हो मेरे पास आतीं।
English Commentary
Seeing the peahen approach her mate triggers a vivid visualization of Sita in Rama's mind. He reflects that if Sita had not been abducted, she, the 'viśālākṣī' (wide-eyed one), would have approached him in the exact same manner—'jāta saṃbhramā' (filled with the excitement and flurry of love). The word 'saṃbhramā' beautifully captures the delightful agitation and eagerness characteristic of a lover rushing to their beloved. Rama knows Sita's nature intimately; he understands that the spring season would have stirred the same romantic longing in her as it has in the peahen. This verse deepens the tragedy of his situation, as he is not just mourning her absence, but actively visualizing the tender moments of intimacy that have been stolen from him by the abduction. It represents the 'Smriti' (recollection) aspect of his grief.

मोरनी को अपने पति के पास जाते देख, श्रीराम तुरंत सीता की कल्पना करते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि यदि सीता का अपहरण न हुआ होता, तो 'विशालाक्षी' (बड़ी और सुंदर आँखों वाली) जानकी भी ठीक इसी तरह, 'जात संभ्रमा' (प्रेम के आवेग या उत्साह से भरकर), मेरे पास आतीं। यहाँ 'संभ्रमा' शब्द उस विशेष हड़बड़ाहट या उत्साह को दर्शाता है जो प्रेम में मिलन की आतुरता से उत्पन्न होता है। राम सीता के स्वभाव को भली-भांति जानते हैं; वे जानते हैं कि वसंत ऋतु का प्रभाव सीता पर भी वैसा ही होता जैसा इस मोरनी पर है। यह श्लोक राम की विरह-अग्नि को और प्रज्वलित करता है क्योंकि वे न केवल सीता को याद कर रहे हैं, बल्कि उन संभावित सुखद क्षणों की कल्पना कर रहे हैं जो रावण द्वारा सीता के हरण के कारण नष्ट हो गए। यह 'स्मृति' संचारी भाव का उदाहरण है।
