Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रुचिराणि अपि पुष्पाणि पादपानाम् अतिश्रिया ।
निष्फलानि महीम् यान्ति समम् मधुकरोत्करैः ॥ ॥४-१-४५॥
rucirāṇi api puṣpāṇi pādapānām atiśriyā । niṣphalāni mahīm yānti samam madhukarotkaraiḥ ॥ ॥4-1-45॥
Translation
Even these beautiful flowers of the trees, possessing great splendor, are falling uselessly to the ground along with the swarms of bees.

वृक्षों के ये अत्यंत सुंदर फूल भी अपनी पूर्ण शोभा के साथ, भंवरों के समूहों सहित, व्यर्थ ही पृथ्वी पर गिर रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Rama elaborates on the forest scene with keen observation. He notes that the 'rucirāṇi' (beautiful) flowers, despite their 'atiśriyā' (magnificent splendor), are eventually falling to the ground, taking the swarms of hovering bees down with them. To Rama, this cycle seems entirely wasteful ('niṣphalāni') because Sita is not there to adorn herself with these blooms or to appreciate their beauty. The imagery serves as a metaphor for wasted time and uncherished beauty. Just as the flowers wither and fall unappreciated to the dust, Rama feels that the prime days of his life—his own 'spring'—are slipping away fruitlessly without Sita. The phrase 'falling uselessly to the ground' reflects his deep sense of futility; the abundance of nature feels mocking when the purpose of that abundance (enjoyment with the beloved) is missing.

श्रीराम वन के दृश्य का और अधिक सूक्ष्म वर्णन करते हैं। वे देखते हैं कि वृक्षों पर खिले 'रुचिराणि' (अत्यंत सुंदर) फूल, जो अपनी 'अतिश्रिया' (अत्यधिक शोभा) के लिए जाने जाते हैं, अंततः मिट्टी में गिरकर नष्ट हो रहे हैं। उनके साथ-साथ उन पर मंडराने वाले भंवरों (मधुकर) के झुंड भी नीचे आ रहे हैं। राम को लगता है कि यह पतन व्यर्थ है क्योंकि सीता इन फूलों को अपनी वेणी में सजाने या इनकी प्रशंसा करने के लिए वहाँ नहीं हैं। यह दृश्य जीवन की क्षणभंगुरता और विरह में समय की बर्बादी का प्रतीक भी है। जैसे फूल बिना सूंघे या बिना देखे मिट्टी में मिल रहे हैं, वैसे ही राम को लग रहा है कि उनके जीवन के सुंदर वसंत रूपी दिन सीता के बिना व्यर्थ जा रहे हैं। 'निष्फलानि महीम् यान्ति' (व्यर्थ ही धरती पर जा रहे हैं) में राम की गहरी हताशा छिपी है।
