दृढम् हि हृदये बुधिः मम संप्रतिवर्तते ।
न अलम् वर्तयितुम् सीता साध्वी मत् विरहम् गता ॥ ॥४-१-५१॥
dṛḍham hi hṛdaye budhiḥ mama saṃprativartate । na alam vartayitum sītā sādhvī mat viraham gatā ॥ ॥4-1-51॥
Translation
A firm conviction is now taking root in my heart that Sita, the chaste and virtuous one, is not capable of surviving after undergoing separation from me.

मेरे हृदय में अब यह विचार दृढ़ हो रहा है कि वह साध्वी सीता मुझसे बिछड़कर अब जीवित रहने में समर्थ नहीं होगी।
English Commentary
Rama's anxiety is hardening into a grim certainty. He states that a firm realization ('dṛḍham buddhiḥ') has settled in his heart. He believes that Sita, being a 'Sadhvi' (a chaste and devoted wife), is existentially tethered to him. Just as a devotee cannot exist without their deity, Rama feels Sita is 'na alam vartayitum' (unable to survive) the separation. This is not born of arrogance, but of his intimate knowledge of her devotion. He knows her entire world revolves around him. This verse underscores the urgency and the psychological burden Rama carries—the terrifying thought that even if he finds her, he might be too late because grief might have already claimed her.

श्रीराम की निराशा अब एक दृढ़ विश्वास का रूप ले रही है। वे कहते हैं, 'दृढम् हि हृदये बुद्धिः' (मेरे दिल में यह बात पक्की हो गई है)। उन्हें लगता है कि सीता 'साध्वी' (पतिव्रता) हैं और उनका जीवन पूरी तरह राम पर आश्रित है। जैसे मछली जल के बिना नहीं रह सकती, वैसे ही राम को लगता है कि सीता उनके बिना 'न अलम् वर्तयितुम्' (जीवित रहने में समर्थ नहीं) हैं। यह अहंकार नहीं, बल्कि सीता के अनन्य प्रेम पर राम का विश्वास है। वे जानते हैं कि सीता का अस्तित्व उनसे जुड़ा है। यह श्लोक राम के आंतरिक द्वंद्व को दिखाता है—एक तरफ उन्हें सीता को खोजने की आशा है, तो दूसरी तरफ उन्हें भय है कि कहीं वे बहुत देर न कर दें। यह भय उन्हें मानसिक रूप से तोड़ रहा है।
