अधिकम् प्रविभाति एतत् नील पीतम् तु शाद्वलम् ।
द्रुमाणाम् विविधैः पुष्पैः परिस्तोमैः इव अर्पितम् ॥४-१-८॥
adhikam pravibhāti etat nīla pītam tu śādvalam |
drumāṇām vividhaiḥ puṣpaiḥ paristomaiḥ iva arpitam ॥4-1-8॥
Translation
This green turf shines exceedingly, appearing blue and yellow with the various flowers of trees, as if covered with arranged bedspreads (carpets).
हिंदी अनुवाद
वृक्षों से झड़े हुए नाना प्रकार के पुष्पों से ढकी हुई यह हरी-भरी घास (शाद्वल), कहीं नीली और कहीं पीली, ऐसी अधिक सुशोभित हो रही है मानो बिछौने (गलीचे) बिछा दिए गए हों।
English Commentary
Rama uses a vivid simile here, comparing the flower-strewn grass to paristoma (bedspreads or carpets). The visual of the green turf (śādvalam) punctuated by blue and yellow fallen petals suggests a rich, textured tapestry woven by nature. This imagery emphasizes the abundance of the Spring season. यहाँ उत्प्रेक्षा अलंकार का सुंदर प्रयोग है। हरी घास पर गिरे हुए रंग-बिरंगे (नीले-पीले) फूलों की तुलना 'परिस्तोम' (बिछौने या कालीन) से की गई है। वसंत ऋतु में वृक्षों से फूल झड़कर धरती को ढक लेते हैं, यह दृश्य राम के मन में राजसी वैभव की स्मृति भी जगा सकता है, किन्तु अब वे वन में हैं। प्रकृति स्वयं उनके स्वागत में बिछौना बिछाए हुए प्रतीत होती है। यह दृश्य अत्यंत मनोरम है किन्तु राम के लिए यह सीता के साथ शयन की स्मृतियों को जगाने वाला भी हो सकता है।
