Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
द्रुमान् पश्य इह सौमित्रे पम्पाया रुचिरान् बहून् ।
वात विक्षिप्त विटपान् यथा आसन्नान् द्रुमान् इमान् ॥ ॥४-१-८४॥
Drumāṇ paśya iha saumitre pampāyā rucirān bahūn । Vāta vikṣipta viṭapān yathā āsannān drumān imān ॥ ॥4-1-84॥
Translation
Behold, O Saumitri, the many beautiful trees here by Pampa. With their branches shaken by the wind, these trees appear as if they are approaching close (to one another or to us).

हे सौमित्र! पम्पा के तट पर इन बहुत से सुंदर वृक्षों को देखो। वायु के झोंकों से जब इनकी शाखाएं हिलती हैं, तो ऐसा लगता है मानो ये वृक्ष एक-दूसरे के समीप आ रहे हों (या हमारे पास आ रहे हों)।
English Commentary
Rama concludes this specific observation by asking Lakshmana to look at the sheer number of beautiful ("ruchiran") trees along Pampa. He focuses on the movement caused by the wind ("vata vikshipta"). The branches are tossing about, and to Rama's imaginative eye, this movement makes the trees seem alive. He interprets the swaying as the trees coming closer ("asannan")—either moving towards each other in an embrace or moving towards Rama and Lakshmana as if to offer comfort or communicate. This personification of nature brings the scene to life. The dynamic movement of the forest, driven by the spring breeze, adds a kinetic energy to the visual beauty, making the environment feel active and participatory in the scene.

इस श्लोक में राम पम्पा के तट पर स्थित वृक्षों की गतिशीलता का वर्णन करते हैं। हवा चल रही है और उससे वृक्षों की डालियाँ ('विटप') हिल रही हैं। राम को ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि हवा के कारण हिलते हुए ये वृक्ष 'आसन्नान्' यानी पास आ रहे हैं। यह एक काव्यात्मक भ्रम है। हो सकता है उन्हें लगे कि वृक्ष एक-दूसरे से मिलने के लिए झुक रहे हैं, या वे राम को सांत्वना देने के लिए उनके पास आना चाहते हैं। 'रुचिरान्' शब्द बताता है कि यह दृश्य बहुत मनभावन है। प्रकृति जड़ नहीं, बल्कि चेतनवत व्यवहार कर रही है। हवा का स्पर्श और वृक्षों का नृत्य वसंत के मादक प्रभाव को चरम पर पहुँचा देता है।
