मन्दकिन्यास्तु यदिदम् रूपम् एतन् मनोररम् ।
स्थाने जगति विख्याता गुणाः तस्या मनोरमाः ॥ ॥४-१-९४॥
Mandakinyāstu yadidam rūpam etan manoharam । Sthāne jagati vikhyātā guṇāḥ tasyā manoramāḥ ॥ ॥4-1-94॥
Translation
This beautiful appearance [of Pampa] is indeed like that of the Mandakini. Truly, its delightful virtues are justly famous in the world.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(पम्पा का) यह जो मनोहर रूप है, वह मंदाकिनी (गंगा/चित्रकूट की नदी) के तुल्य ही है। जगत में जो उसके (मंदाकिनी/पम्पा) मनोरम गुण विख्यात हैं, वे उचित ही हैं।
English Commentary
Rama compares the scenic beauty of Lake Pampa to the Mandakini river (referencing either the celestial Ganga or, more likely in this context, the river at Chitrakoot where they spent happy days). He validates the fame of the place, stating that its 'manoramah gunah' (delightful virtues/qualities) are 'sthane' (appropriate/justified). This comparison serves a dual purpose: it extols Pampa's divine beauty and links the current landscape to memories of the past. By invoking Mandakini, Rama bridges his current location with a time when Sita was by his side, making the beauty of Pampa bittersweet.

राम पम्पा सरोवर की तुलना मंदाकिनी नदी से करते हैं। वनवास के प्रारंभिक दिनों में राम, सीता और लक्ष्मण चित्रकूट में मंदाकिनी के तट पर रहे थे। पम्पा की सुंदरता को देखकर उन्हें उस समय की याद आती है। वे कहते हैं कि पम्पा का रूप भी उतना ही 'मनोहर' (मन को हरने वाला) है। संसार में इसकी सुंदरता की जो चर्चा है ('विख्याता गुणाः'), वह बिल्कुल सही ('स्थाने') है। यह तुलना राम की स्मृति को ट्रिगर करती है। मंदाकिनी के तट पर वे सीता के साथ थे, आज पम्पा के तट पर वे अकेले हैं। स्थान वही सुंदरता लिए हुए है, पर समय बदल गया है।
