न हि एवम् रमणीयेषु शाद्वलेषु तया सह ।
रमतो मे भवेत् चिन्ता न स्पृहा अन्येषु वा भवेत् ॥ ॥४-१-९६॥
Na hi evam ramaṇīyeṣu śādvaleṣu tayā saha । Ramato me bhavet cintā na spṛhā anyeṣu vā bhavet ॥ ॥4-1-96॥
Translation
Enjoying myself with her on such beautiful grassy meadows, I would have no worry, nor would I have a desire for anything else.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इस प्रकार के रमणीय हरे-भरे घास के मैदानों (शाद्वल) में उसके साथ रमण करते हुए, मुझे न तो कोई चिंता होगी और न ही किसी अन्य वस्तु की इच्छा।
English Commentary
Continuing the thought from the previous verse, Rama imagines the specific act of relaxing on the 'shadvaleshu' (lush grassy lawns/meadows) of Pampa with Sita. He asserts that in such a scenario, he would be free of anxiety ('chinta') and desire for anything else ('spriha'). This vision of pastoral bliss contrasts the complexity of court life and the agony of his current quest. It reveals the simplicity of Rama's heart; he seeks neither conquest nor power, but merely the company of his beloved in a beautiful setting. The tragedy lies in the impossibility of this simple wish at the current moment.

राम अपनी कल्पना को विस्तार देते हैं। वे सोचते हैं कि इन 'शाद्वलेषु' (हरी घास के मैदानों) पर सीता के साथ बैठने और समय बिताने में कितना सुख है। यदि ऐसा हो जाए, तो 'न मे भवेत् चिन्ता'—उन्हें कोई चिंता नहीं सताएगी। न राज्य छिनने की, न वनवास की। 'न स्पृहा अन्येषु'—और न ही किसी दूसरी चीज की चाह होगी। यह श्लोक 'तुष्टि' (contentment) की परिभाषा है। राम का सुख बहुत सरल है—प्रकृति के सानिध्य में पत्नी का साथ। लेकिन वर्तमान वास्तविकता (सीता का हरण) इस कल्पना के ठीक विपरीत है, जो इस श्लोक को करुण रस से भर देता है।
