माम् आह सुहृदाम् मध्ये वाक्यम् परम गर्हितम् ।
विदितम् वो मया रात्रौ मायावी स महाअसुरः ॥४-१०-१३॥
mām āha suhṛdām madhye vākyam parama garhitam |
viditam vo mayā rātrau māyāvī sa mahāasuraḥ ॥4-10-13॥
Translation
In the midst of friends and courtiers, he spoke extremely contemptuous words regarding me. (He addressed them saying): "It is known to you all how that night, the great demon Mayavi..."

उसने मित्रों (दरबारियों) के बीच मेरे प्रति अत्यंत निंदनीय (गर्हित) वचन कहे। (उसने सभा से कहा): "आप सभी को ज्ञात है कि उस रात वह मायावी महा-असुर..."
English Commentary
Vali addresses the assembly, and the text notes that his words against Sugriva were parama garhitam (highly censurable/contemptuous). Vali begins his narration with viditam vo (it is known to you), a rhetorical tactic to align the audience with his perspective by referencing shared knowledge about the demon Mayavi. He frames the narrative to justify his subsequent actions against Sugriva. By speaking this way suhridam madhye (in the midst of friends/courtiers), Vali destroys Sugriva's social standing. The focus here is on the manipulation of the narrative; Vali uses the incident of the demon to construct a case of treason against his brother, ignoring Sugriva's intent and focusing only on the outcome that displeased him.

यहाँ वाली द्वारा सुग्रीव के प्रति प्रयोग की गई भाषा को 'परम गर्हितम्' (अत्यंत निंदनीय) कहा गया है। वाली दरबार (सुहृदाम्) में अपनी कहानी सुनाना शुरू करता है ताकि सुग्रीव को दोषी सिद्ध कर सके। वह 'विदितम् वो' (जैसा कि आप जानते हैं) कह कर श्रोताओं को अपनी बात में शामिल करता है, जो एक कुशल वक्ता की निशानी है—वह पहले से स्थापित तथ्यों (मायावी के आगमन) का सहारा लेकर अपनी व्याख्या (Narrative) गढ़ रहा है। वाली का उद्देश्य केवल सुग्रीव को डांटना नहीं, बल्कि उसे समाज और राज्य की नजरों में गिराना है। यह भाई के प्रति द्वेष का चरम है जहाँ वह सुग्रीव के पक्ष को सुने बिना ही अपना एकतरफा फैसला सुना रहा है।
