Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दिष्ट्या असि कुशली प्राप्तो निहतः च त्वया रिपुः ।
अनाथस्य हि मे नाथः त्वम् एको अनाथ नन्दनः ॥४-१०-२॥
Diṣṭyā asi kuśalī prāpto nihataḥ ca tvayā ripuḥ |
Anāthasya hi me nāthaḥ tvam eko anātha nandanaḥ ॥4-10-2॥
Translation
"By good fortune, you have returned safely, and the enemy has been killed by you. For I am like an orphan, and you are my only protector, O delighter of the destitute!"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"सौभाग्य से आप सकुशल लौट आए हैं और आपने शत्रु का वध कर दिया है। मुझ अनाथ के लिए आप ही एकमात्र नाथ (सहारा) हैं, हे अनाथों को आनंद देने वाले!"
English Commentary
Sugriva's speech to Vali is filled with relief, not disappointment. He uses the word Dishtya (luckily/thankfully), celebrating Vali's safety. By calling himself Anatha (orphan/helpless) and Vali his Natha (protector), he explicitly acknowledges Vali's superiority and his own dependence. This dialogue is crucial evidence that Sugriva had no intent to usurp power; he was genuinely happy his brother was alive.

सुग्रीव की वाणी में विनम्रता और प्रेम स्पष्ट है। वे वाली की वापसी को 'दिष्ट्या' (भाग्य/खुशी की बात) मानते हैं। वे स्वयं को 'अनाथ' कहकर यह जताते हैं कि बिना बड़े भाई के उनका कोई अस्तित्व नहीं है। यह कथन वाली के उस शक को निर्मूल साबित करता है कि सुग्रीव उसे मरा हुआ देखकर खुश थे। सुग्रीव वाली को अपना रक्षक मान रहे हैं, प्रतिद्वंद्वी नहीं।
