Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
आत्म अनुमानात् पश्यामि मग्नः त्वाम् शोक सागरे ।
त्वाम् अहम् तारयिष्यामि बाढम् प्राप्स्यसि पुष्कलम् ॥४-१०-३४॥
Ātma anumānāt paśyāmi magnaḥ tvām śoka sāgare । Tvām aham tārayiṣyāmi bāḍham prāpsyasi puṣkalam ॥4-10-34॥
Translation
Inferring from my own experience, I see that you are drowned in an ocean of sorrow. I will rescue you; you shall surely obtain abundant results.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं अपने अनुभव (अपनी स्थिति) से अनुमान लगाकर देख रहा हूँ कि तुम शोक के सागर में डूबे हुए हो। मैं तुम्हें (इस शोक सागर से) पार उतारूँगा। तुम निश्चित ही पूर्ण रूप से (अपना अभीष्ट) प्राप्त करोगे।
English Commentary
Rama bridges the gap between prince and exile through empathy. The phrase ātma anumānāt (by inference from myself) is profound; Rama recognizes the parallel between his loss of Sita/Ayodhya and Sugriva’s loss of Ruma/Kishkindha. He validates Sugriva's pain because he is living it himself. He promises to be the savior (tārayiṣyāmi - I will cause you to cross over) from this ocean of grief. The word puṣkalam (abundant/full) suggests a complete restoration—Sugriva will not just survive, he will thrive, regaining his wife, kingdom, and dignity. This promise cements the alliance not as a transaction, but as a bond of shared destiny and mutual healing.

यह श्लोक श्रीराम और सुग्रीव की मित्रता का आधार स्तंभ है। 'आत्म अनुमानात्' (स्वयं के अनुमान/अनुभव से) शब्द अत्यंत मार्मिक है। श्रीराम भी अपनी पत्नी सीता के वियोग में हैं और राज्य से दूर हैं, इसलिए वे सुग्रीव की पीड़ा को गहराई से समझते हैं। यह समानुभूति (empathy) ही उनकी मित्रता को प्रगाढ़ बनाती है। श्रीराम प्रतिज्ञा करते हैं—'त्वाम् अहम् तारयिष्यामि' (मैं तुम्हें इस दुःख से पार उतारूँगा)। 'पुष्कलम्' का अर्थ है प्रचुर या भरपूर; अर्थात् सुग्रीव को केवल पत्नी ही नहीं, बल्कि राज्य, धन और सम्मान भी पुनः प्राप्त होगा। यह एक मित्र का दूसरे मित्र को दिया गया पूर्ण आश्वासन है।
