आर्तस्य अथ बिला द्वारि स्थितः संवत्सरम् नृप ।
दृष्ट्वा च शोणितम् द्वारि बिलात् च अपि समुत्थितम् ॥४-१०-४॥
Ārtasya atha bilā dvāri sthitaḥ saṃvatsaram nṛpa |
Dṛṣṭvā ca śoṇitam dvāri bilāt ca api samutthitam ॥4-10-4॥
Translation
"O King! Distressed, I stood at the cave entrance for a full year. Then, I saw blood flowing out from the cave onto the entrance."

"हे राजन! मैं दुखी होकर गुफा के द्वार पर एक वर्ष तक खड़ा रहा। फिर मैंने बिल से बाहर द्वार पर खून बहते हुए देखा।"
English Commentary
Sugriva recounts the events to Vali to clear his name. Addressing him as Nripa (King) reinforces his submission. He explains the timeline—waiting a full year—and the visual trigger—the blood—that led to his actions. He is trying to walk Vali through his logical process: that he acted out of grief and perceived certainty of death, not out of malice. It is a plea for understanding based on the facts of the situation.
