Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ततो रामः परिष्वज्य सुग्रीवम् प्रिय दर्शनम् ।
प्रत्युवाच महाप्राज्ञो लक्ष्मणानुगतम् वचः ॥ ॥४-१२-१२॥
tato rāmaḥ pariṣvajya sugrīvam priya darśanam । pratyuvāca mahāprājño lakṣmaṇānugatam vacaḥ ॥ ॥4-12-12॥
Translation
Then, the highly wise Rama, accompanied by Lakshmana, embraced the handsome Sugriva and spoke these words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब महाज्ञानी राम ने लक्ष्मण के साथ, प्रिय दर्शन सुग्रीव को गले लगाया और उनसे वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Rama embracing Sugriva (pariṣvajya) is not merely a friendly gesture but a physical assurance of protection (Abhaya) to a fearful ally. Rama is described as 'mahāprājña' (greatly wise) because he understands that boosting his friend's morale before the battle is essential. The presence of Lakshmana indicates that this alliance and the forthcoming promise are fully supported and formal.

राम का सुग्रीव को गले लगाना (परिष्वज्य) केवल एक मित्रवत व्यवहार नहीं, बल्कि भयभीत सुग्रीव को अभयदान देने का संकेत है। राम को 'महाप्राज्ञ' (अत्यंत बुद्धिमान) कहा गया है, क्योंकि वे जानते हैं कि युद्ध से पूर्व मित्र का मनोबल बढ़ाना आवश्यक है। लक्ष्मण की उपस्थिति (लक्ष्मणानुगतम्) यह दर्शाती है कि यह वचन और गठबंधन पूरी तरह से समर्थित और औपचारिक है।
