तम् श्रुत्वा निनदम् भ्रातुः क्रुद्धो वाली महाबलः ।
निष्पपात सुसंरब्धो भास्करो अस्त तटात् इव ॥ ॥४-१२-१६॥
tam śrutvā ninadam bhrātuḥ kruddho vālī mahābalaḥ । niṣpapāta susaṃrabdho bhāskaro asta taṭāt iva ॥ ॥4-12-16॥
Translation
Hearing that roar of his brother, the mighty Vali became extremely angry and rushed out furiously, like the sun emerging from the summit of the setting mountain.

भाई की उस गर्जना को सुनकर महाबली वाली अत्यंत क्रोधित हुआ और बाहर निकल पड़ा, जैसे अस्ताचल (पर्वत) से सूर्य निकलता है।
English Commentary
The simile used for Vali, 'bhāskaro asta taṭāt iva' (like the sun from the setting mountain), is deeply symbolic. The brilliance of the sun represents Vali's valor, but the reference to 'Asta' (setting/sunset) foreshadows his impending death. Vali's rage blinds his judgment, causing him to accept the challenge impulsively, which ultimately leads to his downfall.

यहाँ वाली के लिए 'भास्करो अस्त तटात् इव' (अस्ताचल से सूर्य की भांति) की उपमा अत्यंत प्रतीकात्मक है। सूर्य का तेज वाली के पराक्रम को दर्शाता है, किन्तु 'अस्त' (डूबना) शब्द उसके आसन्न विनाश का संकेत देता है। वाली का क्रोध उसे विवेकहीन बना देता है, और वह बिना सोचे-समझे चुनौती स्वीकार कर लेता है, जो उसके पतन का कारण बनता है।
