Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ततो रामो धनुष् पाणिः तौ उभौ समुदैक्षत ।
अन्योन्य सदृशौ वीरौ उभौ देवौ इव अश्विनौ ॥ ॥४-१२-१९॥
tato rāmo dhanuṣ pāṇiḥ tau ubhau samudaikṣata । anyonya sadṛśau vīrau ubhau devau iva aśvinau ॥ ॥4-12-19॥
Translation
Then Rama, bow in hand, looked at those two heroes who resembled each other exactly, like the twin gods, the Ashvini Kumaras.

तब हाथ में धनुष लिए राम ने उन दोनों वीरों को देखा, जो अश्विनी कुमारों की भांति एक-दूसरे के बिल्कुल समान लग रहे थे।
English Commentary
This verse marks the critical turning point. Rama was ready, but the 'anyonya sadṛśau' (identical appearance) caused a dilemma. The Ashvini Kumaras are twin gods, indistinguishable from one another. Valmiki highlights Rama's constraint here—he desires to help his friend, but he must strictly avoid the sin of accidentally killing his ally due to mistaken identity.

यह श्लोक पूरी घटना का निर्णायक मोड़ है। राम तैयार थे, परन्तु 'अन्योन्य सदृशौ' (एक दूसरे के समान) होने के कारण वे भ्रमित हो गए। अश्विनी कुमार जुड़वां देवता हैं और उनमें भेद करना असंभव माना जाता है। वाल्मीकि यहाँ राम की विवशता को दर्शाते हैं—वे मित्र की सहायता करना चाहते हैं, पर अनजाने में मित्रवध के पाप से भी बचना चाहते हैं।
