गज पुष्पीम् इमाम् फुल्लाम् उत्पाट्य शुभ लक्षणाम् ।
कुरु लक्ष्मण कण्ठे अस्य सुग्रीवस्य महात्मनः ॥ ॥४-१२-३९॥
gaja puṣpīm imām phullām utpāṭya śubha lakṣaṇām । kuru lakṣmaṇa kaṇṭhe asya sugrīvasya mahātmanaḥ ॥ ॥4-12-39॥
Translation
O Lakshmana! Uproot this blossoming Gajapushpi creeper, which possesses auspicious marks, and place it around the neck of the high-souled Sugriva.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे लक्ष्मण! इस खिली हुई और शुभ लक्षणों वाली 'गजपुष्पी' लता को उखाड़कर महात्मा सुग्रीव के गले में पहना दो।
English Commentary
The choice of the 'Gajapushpi' creeper is specific. It is likely a large, distinct vine that would remain visible even in the chaos of combat. Rama issuing the instruction and Lakshmana executing it acts as a ceremonial 'anointing' for Sugriva, akin to armoring him for victory. The term 'śubha lakṣaṇām' (having auspicious marks) foreshadows the successful outcome of this second attempt.
