कुरु प्रणामम् धर्मात्मन् तेषाम् उद्दिश्य राघवः ।
लक्ष्मणेन सह भ्रात्रा प्रयतः संयत अंजलिः ॥ ॥४-१३-२५॥
kuru praṇāmam dharmātman teṣām uddiśya rāghavaḥ । lakṣmaṇena saha bhrātrā prayataḥ saṃyata añjaliḥ ॥ ॥4-13-25॥
Translation
O righteous Raghava! Along with your brother Lakshmana, with a disciplined mind and folded hands, offer obeisance directed toward those sages.

हे धर्मात्मा राघव! आप भाई लक्ष्मण के साथ संयत होकर (मन और इंद्रियों को वश में करके) और हाथ जोड़कर उन ऋषियों के उद्देश्य से प्रणाम करें।
English Commentary
Sugriva assumes the role of a spiritual guide here, instructing Rama on the protocol of sacred geography. Addressing Rama as 'Dharmātman' appeals to his inherent righteousness. The instruction is to offer respect 'uddiśya' (directed towards) the invisible sages, acknowledging their continued presence. The terms 'prayataḥ' (pure/restrained) and 'saṃyata añjaliḥ' (folded hands) prescribe the correct psycho-somatic alignment for receiving blessings. It highlights the cultural etiquette that when passing a powerful spiritual locus, one must bow with humility to harmonize oneself with the local energies, regardless of one's own status.

सुग्रीव यहाँ एक मार्गदर्शक (guide) की भूमिका में हैं और राम को 'धर्मात्मा' कहकर संबोधित कर रहे हैं। यद्यपि राम स्वयं भगवान हैं, पर नर-लीला में वे मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम हैं, इसलिए उन्हें स्थान-महात्म्य का सम्मान करना चाहिए। 'उद्दिश्य' शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है—ऋषि दिखाई नहीं दे रहे, अतः उन्हें 'उद्देश्य' करके या मन में धारण करके प्रणाम करना है। 'प्रयतः' (पवित्र/सावधान) और 'संयत अंजलिः' (जुड़े हाथ) श्रद्धा की शारीरिक और मानसिक मुद्रा को दर्शाते हैं। तीर्थ या सिद्ध स्थान पर कैसे व्यवहार करना चाहिए, यह उसका व्यावहारिक उपदेश है।
