ननर्द क्रूर नादेन विनिर्भिन्दन् इव अम्बरम् ।
तत्र शब्देन वित्रस्ता गावो यान्ति हतप्रभाः ॥४-१४-२०॥
nanarda krūra nādena vinirbhindan iva ambaram । tatra śabdena vitrastā gāvo yānti hataprabhāḥ ॥ ॥4-14-20॥
Translation
...roared with a cruel sound, as if piercing the sky. Terrified by that sound, the cows lost their luster and fled.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...उसने (सुग्रीव ने) आकाश को भेदते हुए से, क्रूर (भीषण) नाद के साथ गर्जना की। उस शब्द से भयभीत होकर गाएं (कौले) अपनी कांति खोकर भागने लगीं।
English Commentary
The intensity of Sugriva's roar is described as vinirbhindan iva ambaram—as if piercing or splitting the sky. The sound is krūra (cruel/fierce), indicating purely aggressive intent. The impact is cosmic and terrestrial: even the cows (gāvo) lose their luster (hataprabhāḥ) and flee in terror. This reaction of the natural world validates the power behind Sugriva's challenge, showing he has fully absorbed Rama's confidence.

सुग्रीव की गर्जना का प्रभाव यहाँ दर्शाया गया है। 'विनिर्भिन्दन् इव अम्बरम्' (मानो आकाश को फोड़ रहा हो) एक अतिशयोक्ति अलंकार है जो ध्वनि की तीव्रता बताता है। 'क्रूर नादेन' दर्शाता है कि सुग्रीव अब पूर्णतः युद्ध के मूड में है, दयाभाव से रहित। प्रकृति पर इसका प्रभाव देखिए—'गावो' (यहाँ इसका अर्थ 'गाएं' है, यद्यपि कुछ टीकाकार इसे 'किरणें' भी मानते हैं, पर संदर्भ में पशु पक्षियों का भय है) अपनी शोभा खो बैठीं। यह आगामी विनाश का सूचक है।
