गर्जन् इव महामेघो वायु वेग पुरस्सरः ।
अथ बालार्क सदृशो दृप्त सिम्ह गतिः ततः ॥ ॥४-१४-४॥
garjan iva mahāmegho vāyu vega purassaraḥ । atha bālārka sadṛśo dṛpta simha gatiḥ tataḥ ॥ ॥4-14-4॥
Translation
Roaring like a great cloud driven by the wind, he shone like the rising sun and moved with the gait of a proud lion.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे (सुग्रीव) वायु के वेग से चलने वाले महान मेघ के समान गरज रहे थे। वे उगते हुए सूर्य (बाल-र्क) के समान तेजस्वी थे और एक दर्प-युक्त (गर्वित) सिंह की चाल चल रहे थे।
English Commentary
Sugriva is described using a triad of powerful similes: auditory (thundercloud), visual (rising sun), and kinetic (lion). 'Bālārka sadṛśo' (like the young sun) alludes to his reddish-golden complexion and the fiery aura of his rage. 'Dṛpta simha gatiḥ' (gait of a proud lion) signifies a total transformation in his demeanor. No longer the fugitive hiding on Rishyamuka, he now strides with the regal arrogance of a predator, emboldened by the 'wind' of Rama's support, much like a cloud driven by the gale.

सुग्रीव की तुलना तीन प्राकृतिक शक्तियों से की गई है: मेघ (गर्जना में), बाल-सूर्य (तेज/रंग में), और सिंह (चाल/साहस में)। 'बालार्क सदृशो' (प्रातःकालीन सूर्य जैसा लाल) सुग्रीव के शरीर के सुनहरे-लाल रंग और उनके क्रोध से तमतमाए चेहरे दोनों का प्रतीक है। 'दृप्त सिम्ह गतिः' (गर्वित शेर की चाल) बताती है कि अब उनमें हीनता-भाव नहीं है। राम के साथ होने से उनकी देह-भाषा (body language) में एक राजसी ठाठ और निडरता आ गई है।
