तम् एव उवाच वचनम् सुग्रीवम् शत्रु सूदनः ।
कृत अभिज्ञान चिह्नः त्वम् अनया गज साह्वया ॥ ॥४-१४-८॥
tam eva uvāca vacanam sugrīvam śatru sūdanaḥ । kṛta abhijñāna cihnaḥ tvam anayā gaja sāhvayā ॥ ॥4-14-8॥
Translation
Rama, the destroyer of enemies, spoke these words to Sugriva: "You have been marked for identification by this Gajasahvaya (Elephant-named) creeper."

शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले राम ने सुग्रीव से ये वचन कहे - "तुम्हें इस 'गजसाह्वा' (गजपुष्पी) लता के द्वारा पहचान का चिह्न दिया गया है।"
English Commentary
Rama responds with pragmatic reassurance. Addressing the root cause of the previous failure (mistaken identity), he points out the tactical solution implemented: the 'Gajasahvaya' creeper. This plant acts as an IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) marker. By explicitly mentioning 'abhijñāna cihnaḥ' (identification sign), Rama calms Sugriva's fear that confusion might arise again in the heat of battle. The epithet 'śatru sūdanaḥ' reinforces Rama's competence as a warrior who knows how to eliminate threats systematically.

राम सुग्रीव को आश्वस्त करते हैं। पिछली बार की असफलता का मुख्य कारण दोनों भाइयों का एक जैसा दिखना था। इस बार राम ने तकनीकी सुधार किया है। 'गजसाह्वा' (गजपुष्पी) एक विशिष्ट लता है जिसे सुग्रीव के गले में पहनाया गया है। 'अभिज्ञान चिह्नः' (पहचान का निशान) सामरिक दृष्टि से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। यह 'फ्रेंडली फायर' (मित्र पर प्रहार) से बचने का उपाय है। राम का 'शत्रु सूदन' विशेषण यह भरोसा दिलाता है कि अब शत्रु का बचना असंभव है।
