मुक्तस्तु वज्र निर्घोषः प्रदीप्त अशनि संनिभः ।
राघवेण महा बाणो वालि वक्षसि पातितः ॥ ॥४-१६-३५॥
Muktastu vajra nirghoṣaḥ pradīpta aśani saṃnibhaḥ |
Rāghaveṇa mahā bāṇo vāli vakṣasi pātitaḥ ॥4-16-35॥
Translation
Released with a thunderous roar like a thunderbolt, and glowing like lightning, that great arrow was shot by Raghava and it struck Vali on his chest.

वज्र के समान गर्जना करने वाला और प्रदीप्त बिजली के समान वह महाबाण राघव द्वारा छोड़ा गया और उसने वाली की छाती पर प्रहार किया।
English Commentary
The description of the arrow strikes a note of poetic irony. It sounds like a 'vajra' (Indra's thunderbolt) and strikes Vali, the son of Indra. The arrow is luminous ('pradīpta') and swift as lightning ('aśani'). Hitting the chest ('vakṣasi') signifies a direct, fatal hit to the vital center. The verse captures the sensory overload of the moment—the blinding light and deafening sound culminating in the impact.

यहाँ बाण के छूटने और लक्ष्य-भेद का वर्णन है। बाण की आवाज 'वज्र निर्घोष' (इन्द्र के वज्र जैसी) है—यह एक विडंबना है क्योंकि वाली इन्द्र के ही पुत्र है और उसे इन्द्र के वज्र जैसी शक्ति ने ही मारा। 'अशनि संनिभः' (बिजली जैसा चमकदार) बाण की गति और ऊर्जा को दर्शाता है। 'वक्षसि पातितः' (छाती पर गिरा) यह सिद्ध करता है कि राम का निशाना कितना अचूक था। यह प्रहार प्राणलेवा और निर्णायक था।
