सोढुम् न च समर्थो अहम् युद्ध कामस्य संयुगे ।
सुग्रीवस्य च संरंभम् हीन ग्रीवस्य गर्जतम् ॥ ॥४-१६-४॥
soḍhum na ca samartho aham yuddha kāmasya saṃyuge । sugrīvasya ca saṃraṃbham hīna grīvasya garjatam ॥ ॥4-16-4॥
Translation
I am not capable of tolerating the agitation of Sugriva who desires war, nor the roaring of that 'weak-necked' one in the battlefield.

मैं युद्ध की इच्छा रखने वाले सुग्रीव का यह वेग और उस 'हीन-ग्रीव' (कमजोर गर्दन वाले) की गर्जना को युद्धभूमि में सहन करने में समर्थ नहीं हूँ।
English Commentary
Vali engages in wordplay to belittle his opponent. Contrast this with Verse 15.28 where Tara called Sugriva Vipula-griva (strong-necked); Vali mockingly calls him Hīna-griva (weak-necked or having a defective neck). He expresses zero tolerance for the roaring (garjatam) of someone he considers inferior who is lusting for war (yuddha kāmasya). This insult underscores Vali's fatal flaw: underestimating his opponent based on past victories, ignoring the new variable (Rama) in the equation.

वाली यहाँ सुग्रीव का मज़ाक उड़ाता है। जहाँ तारा ने सुग्रीव को 'विपुल ग्रीव' (मजबूत गर्दन वाला) कहा था, वहीं वाली उसे 'हीन ग्रीव' (कमजोर/टूटी गर्दन वाला) कह रहा है। यह वाली के अति-आत्मविश्वास (overconfidence) को दर्शाता है। वह कहता है कि सुग्रीव का 'संरम्भ' (आवेश) खोखला है। वाली को यह असहनीय लग रहा है कि एक कमजोर व्यक्ति उसे युद्ध के लिए ललकारे। यह क्रोध उस अपमान से उपजा है कि एक तुच्छ प्राणी सिंह को जगा रहा है।
