त्वम् तु काम प्रधानः च कोपनः च अनवस्थितः ।
राज वृत्तेषु संकीर्णः शरासन परायणः ॥ ॥४-१७-३३॥
tvam tu kāma pradhānaḥ ca kopanaḥ ca anavasthitaḥ । rāja vṛtteṣu saṃkīrṇaḥ śarāsana parāyaṇaḥ ॥ ॥4-17-33॥
Translation
But you are driven primarily by desire, you are irascible and unstable in mind. You are confused regarding royal duties and are recklessly devoted to the bow.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम तो काम (इच्छा) को प्रधानता देने वाले, क्रोधी और अस्थिर चित्त वाले हो। तुम राजधर्म के पालन में भ्रमित हो और केवल अपने धनुष-बाण (शरासन) पर ही भरोसा करते हो।
English Commentary
Vali delivers a devastating critique of Rama's personality. He labels Rama as Kama Pradhana (ruled by desire/passion), Kopana (prone to anger), and Anavasthita (unstable/fickle). This contradicts the traditional view of Rama as calm and steady. Vali argues that Rama relies too heavily on his weapon (Sharasana parayanah) rather than his intellect or dharma. The accusation is that Rama is a confused prince who shoots first and thinks later, lacking the nuanced understanding required to navigate the complex duties of a king (Raja Vritteshu Sankirnah).

यह वाली द्वारा किया गया श्रीराम का अत्यंत कठोर चरित्र-चित्रण है। वह श्रीराम को 'काम प्रधान' (सीता के विरह या सुग्रीव की मित्रता में आसक्त), 'कोपन' (गुस्सैल) और 'अनवस्थित' (चंचल मन वाला) कहता है। 'शरासन परायणः' का अर्थ है 'Trigger-happy'—ऐसा व्यक्ति जो बिना सोचे-समझे समस्या का समाधान हिंसा (धनुष) से करना चाहता है। वाली का कहना है कि राम के पास विवेक (Wisdom) नहीं है, केवल शक्ति (Power) है, और शक्ति का दुरुपयोग ही उन्होंने वाली पर बाण चलाकर किया है।
