त्वया नाथेन काकुत्स्थ न सनाथा वसुंधरा ।
प्रमदा शील संपूर्णा पति एव च विधर्मिणा ॥ ॥४-१७-४२॥
tvayā nāthena kākutstha na sanāthā vasundharā । pramadā śīla saṃpūrṇā pati eva ca vidharmiṇā ॥ ॥4-17-42॥
Translation
O Kakutstha, with you as its lord, the Earth is not truly protected. She is like a virtue-filled woman unfortunate enough to have an unrighteous husband.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे काकुत्स्थ! तुम्हारे स्वामी (नाथ) होते हुए भी यह पृथ्वी सनाथ (सुरक्षित) नहीं है। यह वैसी ही है जैसे कोई शीलवती (चरित्रवान) स्त्री किसी अधर्मी पति के पल्ले पड़ गई हो।
English Commentary
Vali employs a stinging metaphor to critique Rama’s fitness as a ruler. He compares the Earth (Vasundhara) to a noble, chaste woman (Pramada shila sampurna) who is trapped in a marriage with a wicked, unrighteous husband (Vidharmina). The implication is that while the Earth herself is worthy, her current guardian (Rama) lacks the moral standing to be a true Natha (protector). Vali suggests that Rama’s violation of Dharma renders him unworthy of sovereignty, leaving the world spiritually orphaned even with him on the throne.

यह श्रीराम के राजत्व (Kingship) पर एक तीखा प्रहार है। राजा को 'पृथ्वी-पति' कहा जाता है। वाली तुलना करता है कि पृथ्वी (वसुंधरा) एक 'शील संपूर्णा' (गुणवान) स्त्री के समान है, लेकिन उसका दुर्भाग्य है कि उसका स्वामी (राम) 'विधर्मी' (धर्म विरुद्ध आचरण करने वाला) है। जैसे एक दुष्ट पति अपनी सात्विक पत्नी का रक्षक नहीं बल्कि भक्षक बन जाता है, वैसे ही राम के शासन में पृथ्वी सुरक्षित नहीं है क्योंकि रक्षक स्वयं ही भक्षक बन गया है।
