Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
छिन्न चारित्र्य कक्ष्येण सताम् धर्म अतिवर्तिना ।
त्यक्त धर्म अंकुशेन अहम् निहतो राम हस्तिना ॥ ॥४-१७-४४॥
chinna cāritrya kakṣyeṇa satām dharma ativartinā । tyakta dharma aṅkuśena aham nihato rāma hastinā ॥ ॥4-17-44॥
Translation
I have been killed by the elephant named Rama, which has snapped the rope of character, transgressed the code of the virtuous, and cast off the goad of Dharma.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं उस राम रूपी हाथी द्वारा मारा गया हूँ, जिसने चरित्र रूपी रस्सी (बंधन) को तोड़ दिया है, जो सज्जनों के धर्म का उल्लंघन करने वाला है और जिसने धर्म रूपी अंकुश को त्याग दिया है।
English Commentary
Vali uses a powerful elephant metaphor here. He describes Rama not as a disciplined warrior, but as a rogue elephant. Just as a trained elephant is bound by a rope (Kakshya) and guided by a goad (Ankusha), a King is bound by character and guided by Dharma. Vali claims Rama has snapped the rope of character (Chinna charitra) and discarded the goad of Dharma (Tyakta dharma ankusha). This depicts Rama as an uncontrollable force of nature, destroying lives without moral restraint or guidance.

यहाँ वाली 'रूपक अलंकार' (Metaphor) का सुंदर प्रयोग करता है। वह राम की तुलना एक 'मदमस्त हाथी' से करता है। जैसे हाथी को नियंत्रित करने के लिए रस्सी (कक्ष्या) और अंकुश की आवश्यकता होती है, वैसे ही मनुष्य को नियंत्रित करने के लिए 'चारित्र्य' और 'धर्म' की आवश्यकता होती है। वाली कहता है कि राम ने ये दोनों नियंत्रण तोड़ दिए हैं। एक अंकुश-हीन हाथी विध्वंसक होता है; उसी प्रकार धर्म-विहीन राम ने विनाशकारी कृत्य किया है।
