युक्तम् यत् प्रप्नुयात् राज्यम् सुग्रीवः स्वर् गते मयि ।
अयुक्तम् यद् अधर्मेण त्वया अहम् निहतो रणे ॥ ॥४-१७-५२॥
yuktam yat prapnuyāt rājyam sugrīvaḥ svar gate mayi । ayuktam yad adharmeṇa tvayā aham nihato raṇe ॥ ॥4-17-52॥
Translation
It is proper that Sugriva should obtain the kingdom after I have gone to heaven; but it is improper that I was killed by you in battle through unrighteous means (Adharma).
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरे स्वर्ग जाने (मरने) पर सुग्रीव को राज्य मिले, यह तो युक्त (उचित) है; किन्तु युद्ध में तुमने मुझे अधर्म से मारा, यह अयुक्त (अनुचित) है।
English Commentary
In his dying breath, Vali distinguishes between the outcome and the method. He accepts the political outcome—Sugriva inheriting the throne—as "Yuktam" (proper) post-mortem. However, he condemns the method of his elimination as "Ayuktam" (improper). This highlights that Vali's grievance isn't about losing power or dying (which is a warrior's fate), but about the violation of Dharma in the act of killing. He emphasizes that while the end (Sugriva as King) might be acceptable, the means used by Rama corrupt the entire action.

अपने अंतिम क्षणों में वाली एक राजा की भांति स्थिति को स्वीकार करता है। उसे सुग्रीव के राजा बनने से आपत्ति नहीं है, क्योंकि यह उत्तराधिकार का नियम है। उसकी आपत्ति केवल 'प्रक्रिया' (Process) पर है। 'अधर्मेण निहतो'—यही उसका मुख्य अभियोग है। वह यह स्पष्ट करता है कि उसे मृत्यु का भय नहीं है, बल्कि इस बात का क्षोभ है कि रघुकुल के एक राजकुमार ने उसे मारने के लिए जो तरीका अपनाया, वह नैतिक रूप से गलत था। यह साध्य (परिणाम) और साधन (तरीका) के बीच का नैतिक अंतर है।
