Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इति एवम् उक्त्वा परिशुष्क वक्त्रःशर अभिघातात् व्यथितो महात्मा ।
समीक्ष्य रामम् रवि संनिकाशम्तूष्णीम् बभौ वानर राज सूनुः ॥ ॥४-१७-५४॥
iti evam uktvā pariśuṣka vaktraḥśara abhighātāt vyathito mahātmā । samīkṣya rāmam ravi saṃnikāśamtūṣṇīm babhau vānara rāja sūnuḥ ॥ ॥4-17-54॥
Translation
Having spoken thus, the high-souled son of the Monkey King, his mouth parched and suffering from the impact of the arrow, looked at Rama, who was resplendent like the sun, and fell silent.

ऐसा कहकर, बाण के प्रहार से पीड़ित और सूखे हुए मुख वाले, उन महात्मा वानरराज पुत्र (वाली) ने सूर्य के समान तेजस्वी राम को देखा और चुप हो गए।
English Commentary
This verse marks the narrative transition. Vali, physically broken (parishushka vaktrah - parched mouth) but spiritually significant (Mahatma), falls silent. The contrast is striking: the dying Vanara looking up at his killer, Rama, who shines like the sun (Ravi sannikasham). The visual of Rama's brilliance suggests that despite the accusation of a "dark deed," Rama's inherent divinity or luster remains undimmed. Vali's silence signifies he has exhausted his arguments and now awaits judgment or explanation.
