Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
श्रुणु च अपि अपरम् भूयः कारणम् हरिपुंगव ।
तत् श्रुत्वा हि महत् वीर न मन्युम् कर्तुम् अर्हसि ॥४-१८-३६॥
śruṇu ca api aparam bhūyaḥ kāraṇam haripuṃgava |
tat śrutvā hi mahat vīra na manyum kartum arhasi ॥4-18-36॥
Translation
O Bull among Monkeys! Listen also to another weighty reason. O Hero, having heard it, you ought not to harbor anger against me.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वानरश्रेष्ठ! एक और भी महान कारण सुनो। हे वीर! उसे सुनकर तुम्हें (मुझ पर) क्रोध नहीं करना चाहिए।
English Commentary
Here, Rama shifts the trajectory of his argument. Until now, he addressed Vali as a subject/king punishable for the crime of incest under human law. Now, he introduces an alternative argument based on Vali being a "Vanara" (animal). Vali had complained about being shot from a hidden position. Rama prepares to explain that according to the laws of hunting ("Mrigaya"), this is permissible. Rama prefaces this by asserting that hearing this technical justification should quell any remaining anger in Vali, as it is irrefutable logic applied to his biological nature.

यहाँ से राम अपने तर्क की दिशा बदलते हैं। अब तक उन्होंने वाली को एक 'प्रजा' और 'राजा' मानकर उसके अपराध (incest) के लिए दंडित करने की बात कही थी। अब वे एक वैकल्पिक तर्क प्रस्तुत करते हैं जो वाली की 'वानर' (पशु) योनि पर आधारित है। वाली ने शिकायत की थी कि राम ने छिपकर वार किया। राम अब बताएंगे कि पशुओं के शिकार (मृगया) के नियमों के अनुसार इसमें कोई दोष नहीं है। राम भूमिका बाँधते हैं कि इस तर्क को सुनकर वाली का बचा-खुचा क्रोध भी शांत हो जाएगा क्योंकि यह तर्क तकनीकी रूप से अकाट्य है।
