Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तत्र अपि खलु माम् दोषम् कर्तुम् न अर्हसि राघव ।
त्वम् हि दृष्टार्थ तत्त्वज्ञः प्रजानाम् च हिते रतः ।
कार्य कारण सिद्धौ च प्रसन्ना बुद्धिः अव्यया ॥४-१८-४७॥
tatra api khalu mām doṣam kartum na arhasi rāghava । tvam hi dṛṣṭārtha tattvajñaḥ prajānām ca hite rataḥ । kārya kāraṇa siddhau ca prasannā buddhiḥ avyayā ॥ ॥4-18-47॥
Translation
"Even regarding that, O Raghava, you ought not to find fault with me. For you are the knower of the ultimate truth and engaged in the welfare of the people. Your intellect is clear and unwavering in determining cause and effect."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे राघव! आप मेरे उन वचनों के लिए मुझे दोषी न ठहराएं। आप यथार्थ को देखने वाले, तत्त्व के ज्ञाता और प्रजा के हित में लीन रहने वाले हैं। कार्य और कारण का निश्चय करने में आपकी बुद्धि निर्मल और स्थिर है।"
English Commentary
Vali appeals to Rama’s higher nature. He acknowledges Rama as 'tattvajna' (knower of reality) and one who is dedicated to the welfare of all beings. Vali implies that since Rama possesses a clear ('prasanna') and imperishable intellect capable of discerning the true cause and effect of actions, Rama should understand that Vali's outburst was merely a reaction to pain, not malice. Vali is essentially saying that a judge as wise as Rama should not hold a grudge against a convict who spoke out of turn. It highlights Rama's role as a detached administrator of justice.

वाली यहाँ राम के गुणों की स्तुति कर रहा है। वह राम को 'तत्त्वज्ञ' कहता है, जिसका अर्थ है वह जो जीवन और धर्म के सार को जानता है। वाली समझ गया है कि राम ने उसे किसी व्यक्तिगत द्वेष के कारण नहीं, बल्कि लोकहित और धर्म की स्थापना के लिए मारा है। वह कहता है कि राम की बुद्धि 'प्रसन्ना' (निर्मल) है, जो भावनाओं के आवेग से ग्रस्त नहीं होती, बल्कि कर्तव्य (कार्य-कारण) पर स्थिर रहती है। अतः वह राम से प्रार्थना करता है कि वे उसके कटु वचनों को अज्ञानी की बड़बड़ाहट समझकर भुला दें।
