या ते नरपते वृत्तिः भरते लक्ष्मणे च या ।
सुग्रीवे च अंगदे राजन् ताम् चिंतयितुम् अर्हसि ॥४-१८-५४॥
yā te narapate vṛttiḥ bharate lakṣmaṇe ca yā । sugrīve ca aṃgade rājan tām ciṃtayitum arhasi ॥ ॥4-18-54॥
Translation
"O King of men, whatever attitude you have towards Bharata and Lakshmana, O King, you should deign to have the same towards Sugriva and Angada."

"हे नृपश्रेष्ठ! जो स्नेहभाव आपका भरत और लक्ष्मण के प्रति है, हे राजन! वैसा ही भाव आप सुग्रीव और अंगद के विषय में भी रखने की कृपा करें।"
English Commentary
Vali invokes the gold standard of brotherly love: Rama’s relationship with Bharata and Lakshmana. By drawing this parallel, Vali elevates the status of Sugriva and Angada, asking Rama to treat them not as mere forest allies, but with the same affection ('vritti') he holds for his own blood. It is a powerful request, aiming to graft the broken Vanara family onto the ethical framework of the Raghu clan. Vali hopes that under Rama’s influence, the relationship between Sugriva and Angada will mirror the devotion seen in Ayodhya.
