मत् दोष कृत दोषाम् ताम् यथा ताराम् तपस्विनीम् ।
सुग्रीवो न अवमन्येत तथा अवस्थातुम् अर्हसि ॥४-१८-५५॥
mat doṣa kṛta doṣām tām yathā tārām tapasvinīm । sugrīvo na avamanyeta tathā avasthātum arhasi ॥ ॥4-18-55॥
Translation
"You should ensure that Sugriva does not insult the ascetic Tara, who might be seen as guilty because of my faults."

"मेरी तपस्विनी पत्नी तारा, जिसे मेरे अपराधों के कारण दोषी माना जा सकता है, उसका सुग्रीव अपमान न करे—ऐसी व्यवस्था आपको करनी चाहिए।"
English Commentary
Vali shifts his focus to the protection of his wife, Tara. He fears Sugriva might seek revenge on her for Vali's past actions. By referring to her as 'tapasvinim' (ascetic/pious), he highlights her virtue and implies she was merely following her husband's will. He explicitly states that any fault lies with him ('mat dosha'), not her. He implores Rama to create a situation ('avasthatum') where Sugriva does not disrespect or humiliate her. This shows Vali's desire to shield his widow from the political backlash of his own rivalry with Sugriva.

अंगद के बाद वाली को अब तारा की चिंता सता रही है। वह जानता है कि सुग्रीव तारा से द्वेष रख सकता है क्योंकि तारा ने वाली का साथ दिया था और सुग्रीव को राज्य से वंचित करने में वाली की भागीदार रही थी। वाली तारा को 'तपस्विनी' कहता है, यह बताते हुए कि वह पतिव्रता और धर्मपरायण है, और 'मत् दोष कृत दोषाम्' कहकर तारा के सारे अपराधों का भार अपने ऊपर ले लेता है। वह राम से प्रार्थना करता है कि वे सुग्रीव को तारा का सम्मान करने का आदेश दें, ताकि विधवा होने के बाद उसका जीवन नरक न बने।
