स तस्य वाक्यम् मधुरम् महात्मनः समाहितम् धर्म पथानुवर्तिनः ।
निशम्य रामस्य रणावमर्दिनो वचः सुयुक्तम् निजगाद वानरः ॥४-१८-६५॥
sa tasya vākyam madhuram mahātmanaḥ samāhitam dharma pathānuvartinaḥ । nishamya rāmasya raṇāvamardino vacaḥ suyuktam nijagāda vānaraḥ ॥ ॥4-18-65॥
Translation
Hearing those sweet, composed, and reasonable words of the high-souled Rama, who follows the path of Dharma and crushes enemies in battle, the monkey (Vali) spoke these appropriate words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
युद्ध में शत्रुओं का मर्दन करने वाले, धर्म के मार्ग पर चलने वाले महात्मा श्रीराम के उस मधुर और धर्म-संगत वचन को सुनकर वानर (वाली) ने अत्यंत युक्तियुक्त (उचित) उत्तर दिया।
English Commentary
The text describes the transformative effect of Rama’s words on Vali. Rama is described as 'ranavamardina' (crusher of enemies) yet his words are 'madhuram' (sweet). This contrast highlights Rama's dual nature as a warrior and a sage. Vali, hearing these words which align with the path of Dharma, prepares to respond not with his earlier aggression, but with 'suyuktam' (well-reasoned/appropriate) speech. It signifies the complete reconciliation between the two, transitioning from a duel to a dialogue of mutual respect.

यह श्लोक वाली की अंतिम प्रतिक्रिया की भूमिका है। राम के वचनों का प्रभाव वाली पर गहरा पड़ा है। उन्हें 'मधुरम्' (मीठा) और 'समाहितम्' (चित्त को शांत करने वाला) कहा गया है। वाली, जो पहले क्रोध में था, अब राम के 'धर्म पथानुवर्तिनः' स्वरूप को पहचान गया है। राम के शब्दों ने उसके घावों पर मरहम का काम किया है। अब वाली जो बोलेगा, वह 'सुयुक्तम्' होगा—अर्थात पूरी तरह से उचित, विनम्र और सत्य। यह शत्रुता के पूर्णतः समाप्त होने का संकेत है।
