स वानर महाराजः शयानः शर पीडितः ।
प्रत्युक्तो हेतुमद् वाक्यैः न उत्तरम् प्रत्यपद्यत ॥४-१९-१॥
sa vānara mahārājaḥ shayānaḥ shara pīḍitaḥ । pratyukto hetumad vākyaiḥ na uttaram pratyapadyata ॥ ॥4-19-1॥
Translation
Lying down tormented by the arrow, that King of Monkeys, having been answered with reasonable words (by Rama), did not give any further reply.
हिंदी अनुवाद
बाण से पीड़ित होकर पृथ्वी पर लेटे हुए उस वानर महाराज ने, (राम के) तर्कयुक्त वचनों से उत्तर पाकर, फिर कोई उत्तर नहीं दिया (वे निरुत्तर हो गए)।
English Commentary
This verse opens Sarga 19, depicting the final moments of Vali. 'Hetumad vakyaih' refers to Rama’s logical and righteous explanations. Vali finds no grounds to argue further ('na uttaram pratyapadyata'). This silence signifies two things: his physical depletion due to the arrow ('shara piditah') and his intellectual and moral satisfaction with Rama's verdict. The debate has concluded; the King of Monkeys accepts his fate and the justice meted out to him, preparing for the end.

सर्ग १९ का प्रारंभ वाली के अंत की ओर संकेत करता है। राम के तर्क ('हेतुमद् वाक्यैः') इतने अकाट्य और धर्मयुक्त थे कि वाली के पास प्रतिवाद करने के लिए कुछ नहीं बचा था। 'न उत्तरम् प्रत्यपद्यत' का अर्थ है कि उसने राम के न्याय को स्वीकार कर लिया। वह 'शर पीडितः' है, शारीरिक शक्ति क्षीण हो रही है, और मानसिक रूप से वह संतुष्ट हो चुका है। अब बहस का समय समाप्त हो गया है और प्राण त्यागने का समय आ गया है। यह मौन पराजय का नहीं, बल्कि सत्य की स्वीकृति का मौन है।
