ततः स सचिवेभ्यः तु सुग्रीवः प्लवगाधिपः ।
शशंस परम उद्विग्नः पश्यन् तौ राम लक्ष्मणौ ॥४-२-५॥
Tataḥ sa sacivebhyaḥ tu sugrīvaḥ plavagādhipaḥ |
Śaśaṃsa parama udvignaḥ paśyan tau rāma lakṣmaṇau ॥4-2-5॥
Translation
Then, observing Rama and Lakshmana, Sugriva, the Lord of Monkeys, extremely agitated, spoke to his ministers.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब उन राम और लक्ष्मण को देखते हुए, वानरों के स्वामी सुग्रीव ने अत्यंत घबराए हुए होकर अपने मंत्रियों से (अपने मन की बात) कही।
English Commentary
This verse transitions from internal thought to external communication. Sugriva, acknowledging the gravity of the situation, turns to his Sacivas (ministers/counselors). While he is the Plavagadhipa (Lord of the Monkeys), the text reiterates his state as parama udvigna (highly agitated). His gaze is fixed on Rama and Lakshmana (pashyan tau), indicating that their very presence is the source of his disturbance. By addressing his cabinet, Sugriva seeks validation for his fears and likely hopes for a solution that he, in his panicked state, cannot devise himself. It sets the scene for the paranoid theory he is about to propose.

नेतृत्व का एक गुण यह भी है कि संकट काल में अपने विश्वासपात्रों से परामर्श किया जाए। सुग्रीव ने अकेले निर्णय लेने के बजाय अपने 'सचिवों' (मंत्रियों) की ओर रुख किया। यद्यपि वह 'प्लवगाधिपः' (वानरों का स्वामी) है, किन्तु इस समय वह राम और लक्ष्मण के तेज को देखकर इतना विचलित है कि उसे अपने मंत्रियों के समर्थन की आवश्यकता है। 'शशंस' का अर्थ है उसने अपनी आशंका व्यक्त की। यह श्लोक सुग्रीव और उसके मंत्रियों के बीच के घनिष्ठ संबंध को दर्शाता है; वे केवल राजा-प्रजा नहीं, बल्कि विपत्ति के साथी हैं। सुग्रीव का भय अब शब्दों में ढलने वाला है।
