राम चाप विसृष्टेन शरेण अंतकरेण तम् ।
दृष्ट्वा विनिहतम् भूमौ तारा ताराधिप आनना ॥४-२०-१॥
rāma cāpa visṛṣṭena śareṇa aṃtakareṇa tam । dṛṣṭvā vinihatam bhūmau tārā tārādhipa ānanā ॥ ॥4-20-1॥
Translation
Seeing him struck down on the ground by the death-dealing arrow released from Rama's bow, Tara, whose face resembled the Lord of Stars (the Moon), [grieved].
हिंदी अनुवाद
राम के धनुष से छोड़े गए और (यमराज के समान) अंत करने वाले बाण से, भूमि पर मारे गए उस (बाली) को देखकर, तारापति (चंद्रमा) के समान मुख वाली तारा (अत्यंत दुखी हुई)।
English Commentary
The verse re-establishes the tragic scene focusing on Tara's beauty amidst horror. She is described as tārādhipa ānanā (having a face like the moon/lord of stars), creating a poignant contrast between her luminous beauty and the dark reality of death. The arrow is described as antakareṇa (death-dealing or acting like Yama, the terminator), emphasizing that the strike from Rama's bow was fatal and inescapable. This juxtaposition of the moon-like face of the widow and the bloody, dust-covered body of the king intensifies the artistic depiction of sorrow.

यहाँ नए सर्ग का आरंभ तारा के सौंदर्य और शोक के विरोधाभास से होता है। तारा को 'ताराधिप आनना' (चंद्रमुखी) कहा गया है। चंद्रमा शीतलता और सुंदरता का प्रतीक है, लेकिन यहाँ वह चेहरा शोक से मलीन है। बाण को 'अंतकरेण' (अंत करने वाला/यमराज समान) कहा गया है, जो राम के प्रहार की अमोघ शक्ति को सिद्ध करता है। एक सुंदर मुख वाली रानी का अपने वीर पति के क्षत-विक्षत शव को देखना दृश्य की करुणता (pathos) को बढ़ाता है। यह श्लोक दृश्य को पुनः स्थापित करता है: बाण, शव, और विलाप करती सुंदरी।
