Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कुरुष्व पितरम् पुत्र सुदृष्टम् धर्म वत्सलम् ।
दुर्लभम् दर्शनम् तस्य तव वत्स भविष्यति ॥ ॥४-२०-१८॥
Kuruṣva pitaram putra sudṛṣṭam dharma vatsalam । Durlabham darśanam tasya tava vatsa bhaviṣyati ॥ ॥4-20-18॥
Translation
Do, O Son, look well upon your father who was fond of dharma. O Dear One, the sight of him will hereafter be impossible for you to obtain.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पुत्र (अंगद)! अपने धर्मवत्सल पिता को अच्छी तरह देख लो। हे वत्स! इसके बाद इनका दर्शन तुम्हारे लिए दुर्लभ (असंभव) हो जाएगा।
English Commentary
This is a heart-wrenching directive from a mother to her son. Tara urges Angada to take a final, lingering look (sudṛṣṭam) at his father. Despite Vali's flaws, she refers to him as dharma vatsalam (lover of dharma/righteousness), framing his memory positively for his son. The word durlabham (difficult to obtain/rare) underscores the finality of death. Tara is gently guiding Angada to accept that this physical presence is fleeting and will soon be gone forever. It is a ritual of closure, commanding the son to imprint his father's image in his mind before the separation becomes eternal.

यह दृश्य अत्यंत मार्मिक है। तारा अपने पुत्र अंगद को अंतिम विदाई के लिए प्रेरित कर रही हैं। वह वाली को 'धर्मवत्सल' कहती हैं, जो विरोधाभासी लग सकता है (सुग्रीव के प्रति उनके व्यवहार को देखते हुए), लेकिन एक पुत्र के लिए पिता और प्रजा के लिए राजा सदैव धर्म का रक्षक ही होता है। 'सुदृष्टम् कुरुष्व' का अर्थ है—जी भरकर देख लो। मृत्यु की अंतिम सत्यता यहाँ प्रकट है: एक बार प्राण निकलने के बाद, वह शरीर और वह व्यक्तित्व सदा के लिए 'दुर्लभ' हो जाता है। यह माता द्वारा पुत्र को कठोर सत्य का सामना कराने का क्षण है।
