Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अतीव खलु ते कांता वसुधा वसुधाधिप ।
गत असुर् अपि ताम् गात्रैः माम् विहाय निषेवसे ॥४-२०-६॥
atīva khalu te kāntā vasudhā vasudhādhipa । gata asur api tām gātraiḥ mām vihāya niṣevase ॥ ॥4-20-6॥
Translation
O Lord of the Earth! Indeed, the Earth is extremely dear to you; for even with your life gone, abandoning me, you are serving (embracing) her with your limbs.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पृथ्वीपति! निश्चय ही यह वसुधा (पृथ्वी) आपको (मुझसे) अधिक प्रिय है, क्योंकि प्राण चले जाने पर भी, मुझे छोड़कर आप अपने अंगों से उसी का सेवन (आलिंगन) कर रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Tara employs a poetic metaphor tinged with the jealousy of a wife. Addressing Vali as vasudhādhipa (Lord of the Earth), she accuses him of loving the Earth (vasudhā) more than her. She observes that even in death (gata asur api), he embraces the ground with his limbs (gātraiḥ niṣevase) while abandoning her (mām vihāya). In Indian kingship, the Earth is often personified as the King's first wife; Tara poignantly notes that in his final moments, he chose to lie with the Earth rather than return to his queen.

यह संस्कृत साहित्य का एक प्रसिद्ध और मार्मिक अलंकार है जहाँ नायिका 'पृथ्वी' (जो राजा की दूसरी पत्नी मानी जाती है) से ईर्ष्या करती है। तारा उलाहना देती है कि हे 'वसुधाधिप' (पृथ्वी के स्वामी), लगता है आपको यह धरती मुझसे ज्यादा प्यारी है। मर कर भी आपने मुझे नहीं, बल्कि इसे गले लगा रखा है। 'माम् विहाय' (मुझे छोड़कर) शब्द उसके अकेलेपन को गहराता है। वह बाली के जमीन पर पड़े होने की व्याख्या 'पृथ्वी के आलिंगन' के रूप में करती है, जो कवि की अद्भुत कल्पना है।
