Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सा तस्य वचनम् श्रुत्वा भर्तृ व्यसन पीडिता ।
अब्रवीत् उत्तरम् तारा हनूमन्तम् अवस्थितम् ॥ ॥४-२१-१२॥
sā tasya vacanam śrutvā bhartṛ vyasana pīḍitā । abravīt uttaram tārā hanūmantam avasthitam ॥ ॥4-21-12॥
Translation
Hearing his words, Tara, tormented by the calamity that befell her husband, gave this reply to Hanuman who was standing nearby.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अपने पति के विनाश (मृत्यु) से पीड़ित तारा ने हनुमान के उन वचनों को सुनकर, समीप खड़े हनुमान को यह उत्तर दिया।
English Commentary
This is a bridge verse connecting Hanuman's proposal to Tara's response. The descriptor bhartri vyasana pidita (tormented by the calamity of her husband) clarifies her state of mind. Despite Hanuman's logical and politically advantageous offer, Tara is still deeply submerged in the grief of her husband's loss. At this moment, she identifies primarily as a grieving wife rather than a mother or a queen, which colors her subsequent refusal.

यह एक संयोजक (connecting) श्लोक है जो हनुमान के प्रस्ताव और तारा की प्रतिक्रिया के बीच सेतु का कार्य करता है। 'भर्तृ व्यसन पीडिता' (पति के संकट/मृत्यु से पीड़ित) विशेषण यह स्पष्ट करता है कि यद्यपि हनुमान का प्रस्ताव तर्कसंगत और राजनीतिक रूप से लाभप्रद था, तारा की मानसिक स्थिति अभी भी पूर्णतः अपने पति के प्रेम और वियोग में डूबी हुई है। वह अभी 'माँ' या 'रानी' बनने से पहले एक 'पत्नी' है।
